Leeches Should be kept in a Noise & Odor free, slightly Dark Environment away from direct sunlight, In a good quality Chlorine, Chemicals & Rust Free Water, In a good ventilated area. Proper temperature zone about 60 degree fahrenheit.
Do not use spring nor distilled water alone, use a filtered Tap water, change Leeches water Twice a week in winter, 3 times in summer. You may change water and Clean Jar Thoroughly if you remove a dead or sluggish leech from the Jar.
If Leeches water color become green or if it smells, become dirty you should change it also with each water change remove the dead skin - looks like whitish slimy threads in leeches water .
Water temperature should be the same as the jar water where leeches live - you may accomplish that by keeping fresh water in the same room with leeches for 2-3 hours before water change.
leeches should be housed in a clean jar - detergent and disinfectant free - each Quart of water has about 10 Medium leeches, Jar should be covered with double layer of cloth and few good quality rubber band to prevent leeches from escape. You may add some sharp edges small rocks to help leeches shed it's skin.
Do not suddenly change leeches water temperature as that may cause thermal shock, sickness and death.
To change leeches water, start by turning the jar in the sink gradually to pour the water then add fresh water in the same temperature by pouring it slowly on the cloth. You may need to wash the cloth from time to time - if any leeches escape catch it with a forceps.
When you receive your leeches order Please and ASAP remove it from the shipping container Inspect it and into your jar 1/2 filled with chlorine and rust free filtered water at around 60 degree Fahrenheit.
Do not wash leech jar with detergent Nor disinfectant, That can cause immediate death for the leeches.
Leeches can live in the housing jar for more than 1-3 month without feeding, Please do not attempt to feed Your Leeches. Leeches arrive to you fasting , cleansed and ready for application.
Live Hirudo Leeches is for a single time use only. After use please dispose it by place it in an alcohol for a few minutes then dispose it.
